Is Social Anxiety the same thing as Shyness?

They are similar, but many people can be a bit shy or quiet without necessarily having Social Anxiety.

Social Anxiety is when a person’s shyness is so extreme and crippling that it actually affects their ability to lead a ‘normal’ life. The shyness experienced will be accompanied by physical symptoms of anxiety, which may include panic attacks.
